What is Reiki?

Reiki is an ancient Japanese hands-on healing technique that supports stress reduction and relaxation. The literal English translation is “Universal Life Energy,” and refers to the energy that is within us and all around us. It is based upon the principle that the practitioner can channel energy in the client by means of gentle touch. This activates and facilitates the natural healing processes of the client’s body, thereby restoring physical and emotional well-being!

Reiki is simple, natural, safe, and non-invasive. It is 100% beneficial for the receiver. It assists the body in coming to a relaxation response, activating the parasympathetic nervous system where healing can more easily occur. It does not depend upon the intellect or spiritual development... it is available to everyone. It does, however, work with the free will of the client and requires a degree of openness to receive the maximum benefit of its healing potential.

This natural healing practice has become recognized and utilized in conjunction with Western medicine in hospitals; research has shown individuals who receive energy healing pre and post surgery heal faster, experience less pain, and are discharged at a quicker rate. A version of Reiki, known as My Healing Touch, is used at times for hospice patients through the Palliative Care Model.

Reiki ultimately supports the integration of mind-body-spirit, conscious and unconscious, and can guide us back to wholeness to live our best, most authentic life!
